SUMMARY:MWWG - LAMINATION BENDING WORKSHOP- BY NICK
DESCRIPTION:Mark Your Calendars\, its time for two special woodworking events: an all-day Saturday demonstration and a Friday night Museum talk\, both with master woodworker Nick Clark.   \nAs a follow up to Yuri Kobayashi’s 2023 steam bending demo Nick’s will be focused on the other wood bending technique\,  bent lamination.  As an extra bonus Nick will demonstrate his methods for producing the custom veneers he uses in some of his projects. \nThe location of the demo will be the Crescent Valley High School Woodshop\, and the date and time will be Saturday March 7th beginning at 9 am.  As was the case in 2023 there will be a special event charge for Guild members. Note: you will as well need to be current on your 2026 Guild dues. Stay tuned for the extra amount and other details but be prepared for a very reasonable rate for a demo of this caliber.

SUMMARY:MWWG - LECTURE - Nick Clark - WOOD BENDING TECHNIQUES
DESCRIPTION:Mark Your Calendars\, it’s time for two special woodworking events: an all-day Saturday demonstration and a Friday night Museum talk\, both with master woodworker Nick Clark. \n  \nOn the prior night\, Friday March 6th at 7 pm\, in place of our regular March meeting we will hold a special event open to all in the Collins Room at the Benton County Historical Society Museum:  Nick Clark:  A Woodworker’s Journey from the UK to Corvallis \n  \nIn the first half Nick will describe how a “lad” from an English village who began his woodworking career in a traditional UK 5-year woodworking apprenticeship program at age 16 ended up a master woodworker in the Corvallis\, Oregon area. \n  \nThe second half of Nick’s presentation will focus on his woodworking projects and the techniques he has refined over 40 years of furniture making and building high end cabinetry in the UK\, Berkeley\, CA\, Ashland\, OR and now the Corvallis area. \nThose of you who have met Nick and seen his work know he is both an expert woodworker and an entertaining speaker. His museum talk should be an event that our membership\, their families\, friends and anyone with an interest in woodworking will enjoy attending. \n  \nWhile free\, since the Museum charges $300 for a Friday night rental of the Collins room there will a suggested donation of $5-10 per person (in cash) to help cover the Guild’s cost and to simultaneously contribute to the success of our beautiful museum via rental of its facilities.

SUMMARY:MWWG-MONTHLY MEETING
DESCRIPTION:The Mid-Willamette Woodworkers Guild’s February meeting will be held on Monday the 23rd from 7-9 pm. The location will once again be at Wade Hardware in downtown Corvallis.\n\nThis meeting will feature a special guest speaker: Autumn Peterson of Heritage Finishes and Summerbeam Books in Philomath.\n\nWhile Autumn’s Heritage Finishes specializes in natural oil based products her talk will be about finishes and finishing in general\, not just the products she manufactures and sells.\n\nBesides her experience with finishes Autumn is a past vice president of the Timber Framer’s Guild and has a masters degree in architecture from The University of Oregon where she specialized in historic preservation. In 2023 she opened Summerbeam Books on Main Street\, Philomath. A specialist bookstore\, Summerbeam Books stocks one of the most complete selections of books in the US on woodworking\, house construction\, architecture and allied subjects.\n\nThere’s a lot to know about finishing\, the final stage of our woodworking projects. We are lucky to have someone with Autumn Peterson’s expertise living in our area and willing to share her knowledge with us. Hope to see you next month at Wade!\nMichael Toivonen

SUMMARY:MWWG MONTHLY MEETING
DESCRIPTION:November Meeting Date and Topic \nOur November meeting will be held at 7 pm on Thursday November 20th at the Consumers Power community meeting room\, 6990 SW West Hills Rd\, Corvallis. The board has decided to have our meetings on various days of the week\, not just Mondays\, in hopes that members we rarely see will find it easier to attend. \nThe November meeting topic will be a free-form sharing by attendees of new projects\, tools or jigs. The amount of time for each will be dependent on how many join in.\nSince the gift giving holidays will be close at hand the sharing of smaller projects suitable for gifts seems especially appropriate but really\, anything goes. \nWe will be having the raffle so bring some small bills so you can buy a ticket\, and if you have items to contribute to the raffle they will be much appreciated. Tools and books are the most appropriate. Larger items\, such as lumber\, are possible but if they aren’t taken you will need to take them home.

SUMMARY:MWWG MONTHLY MEETING
DESCRIPTION:February 22\, 2:00 pm. (Saturday meeting)\nScott Seelye’s shop\, home of Outdoor Ukulele\n7175 NE Avalon Drive\nCorvallis\nJoin us for a tour of new member Scott Seelye’s unique shop. Scott has a background in industrial design and has carved a unique niche for himself making weather resistant musical instruments such as ukuleles\, banjoleles\, and guitars for those who like to make music outdoors. From his web site:\nOur instruments are injection molded on hardened steel tools at 600°F under 420 tons of pressure. Polycarbonate reinforced with carbon fiber strands give the instruments a natural grain structure that greatly increases strength and acoustics. 4X stronger than ABS plastic instruments and weather resistant. Our parts are injection molded in Everett\, Washington….\nWe manufacture our instruments using the lean system. This process takes 3 days\, and we produce 6 instruments each day. We assemble every Ukulele\, Banjolele\, and Guitar at our shop in Corvallis\, Oregon.\nSee you there.

SUMMARY:Friday for Hand Tool Happy Hour!
DESCRIPTION:Hand Tool Happy Hour at Highland With Michael Toivonen \nWoodworking hand tool user and collector Michael Toivonen will be the host of a hand tool happy hour at The Highland Woodshop on Friday January 24 between 5 & 8 pm. This event is open to the general public as well as Highland Woodshop members. We request a $10 donation from non members to help cover Highland’s overhead. \nBetween all the hand tools available at Highland\, combined with those currently available for purchase new and the many that are no longer in production but that can be found on eBay and elsewhere it can feel a bit overwhelming. Hand Tool Happy Hour will be a casual get together where you can get a better sense of the range of handle tools and what they can do. \nBesides bringing along tools from his collection to put through their paces Michael will be available to take your questions about hand tool use\, maintenance\, identification and history. \nDrop by Highland’s Hand Tool Happy Hour next Friday and imbibe the intoxicating heritage of hand tool woodworking with no risk of a hangover! No need to RSVP\, just show up! If you have questions about details\, please email us at highlandwoodshop@gmail.com

SUMMARY:MONTHLY MEETING - AUG
DESCRIPTION:Michael Toivonen will host the August MWWG meeting at his home on Saturday\, August 24th beginning at 10 am. This year’s theme is “Talking and Trying Hand Tools with Michael T.”\nArriving late is ok as long as you don’t demand an instant replay of what you missed. The address is 3895 SW Neer Ave\, at its corner with SW Sunset Drive\, Corvallis. The turnoff from Philomath Blvd into this neighborhood via SW Sunset Drive is tricky\, so he recommends checking out a satellite view map before coming over for the first time.\nAs space is limited\, this meeting is open only to paid MWWG members.

SUMMARY:MWWG MEETING - JULY
DESCRIPTION:July\nThis month our member Kiko Denzer has generously invited us to his shop and home for a demonstration of green woodworking. Green woodworking refers to making things out of wood that has been recently harvested and is still wet\, rather than wood that has been dried\, using mostly hand tools. Kiko will show us how he makes turned objects using his foot-powered lathe. And as a bonus\, he will fire up his wood fired earth oven so we can all make pizza!*\nKiko specializes in green woodworking\, natural building\, earth plastering\, has written a well-known book on constructing earth ovens\, and more. You can get a hint of his broad interests here:\nhttps://www.handprintpress.com/\nHe also teaches classes at the Tarweed Folk School here in Benton County.\nThere are special arrangements for this meeting:\n1. We meet on Sunday\, June 14th\, 2:30 to 5:00 pm.\n2. Because of limited space we have to restrict attendance to MWWG members only. \n3. Again because of limited space we ask everyone to carpool. Please show up at the Benton County Fairgrounds parking lot near their big electronic sign at 2:30 pm. We will give drivers the address when you get there. BCF is only about 3.5 miles from Kiko’s house in Philomath so it will be a quick shuttle.
