MWWG – LECTURE – Nick Clark – WOOD BENDING TECHNIQUES

March 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Mark Your Calendars, it’s time for two special woodworking events: an all-day Saturday demonstration and a Friday night Museum talk, both with master woodworker Nick Clark.

As a follow up to Yuri Kobayashi’s 2023 steam bending demo Nick’s will be focused on the other wood bending technique,  bent lamination.  As an extra bonus Nick will demonstrate his methods for producing the custom veneers he uses in some of his projects.

The location of the demo will be the Crescent Valley High School Woodshop, and the date and time will be Saturday March 7th beginning at 9 am.  As was the case in 2023 there will be a special event charge for Guild members. Note: you will as well need to be current on your 2026 Guild dues. Stay tuned for the extra amount and other details but be prepared for a very reasonable rate for a demo of this caliber.

On the prior night, Friday March 6th at 7 pm, in place of our regular March meeting we will hold a special event open to all in the Collins Room at the Benton County Historical Society Museum:  Nick Clark:  A Woodworker’s Journey from the UK to Corvallis

In the first half Nick will describe how a “lad” from an English village who began his woodworking career in a traditional UK 5-year woodworking apprenticeship program at age 16 ended up a master woodworker in the Corvallis, Oregon area.

The second half of Nick’s presentation will focus on his woodworking projects and the techniques he has refined over 40 years of furniture making and building high end cabinetry in the UK, Berkeley, CA, Ashland, OR and now the Corvallis area.

Those of you who have met Nick and seen his work know he is both an expert woodworker and an entertaining speaker. His museum talk should be an event that our membership, their families, friends and anyone with an interest in woodworking will enjoy attending.

While free, since the Museum charges $300 for a Friday night rental of the Collins room there will a suggested donation of $5-10 per person (in cash) to help cover the Guild’s cost and to simultaneously contribute to the success of our beautiful museum via rental of its facilities.
